Inder has been a leader in Human Resources in global roles with leading multinational companies for more than three decades. He has led large-scale HR transformations across diverse cultures globally as part of leadership teams and has played a critical role in several M&A transactions. He has deep expertise in pre-acquisition due diligence, integrating acquisitions, turning-around acquired assets, and scaling up / right-sizing operations. Mr. Walia brings with him an in-depth knowledge of both emerging and developed markets across Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Inder served ArcelorMittal - the largest steel group globally- for nine years until 2007 as Executive Vice President of Human Resources. He led the Group Human Resources function through a period of substantial organizational growth (from 4 to 30 countries and from $3 to 100 billion revenue). During this period, he institutionalized global practices, scaled-up people strategy, and operations, and played a significant role in 30+ acquisition and their integration.
Subsequently, he served for around ten years at Bharti Enterprises (group revenue of US$14 bn) as Group Director HR to lead human resources for the Bharti Group. As part of the management team, he completed the largest transaction in the Africa Continent (deal value US$10.7 Bn). Inder then contributed to the creation of passive tower infrastructure businesses resulting in benchmark organizations Bharti Infratel ($5 bn market cap) and Indus Towers (JV between Vodafone, Idea & Airtel). Since 2017, he has also held Senior Advisory positions with large organizations across sectors.
Inder has been a member of Board of Directors of ArcelorMittal group entities globally including in South Africa, Czech Republic, Poland, Mexico and Brazil, and of Bharti Group entities including Bharti Infratel Ltd and Bharti Walmart Ltd., Indus Towers Limited (a JV between Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel). Currently, he is an Independent Director on the Board of Ummeed Housing Finance Pvt Ltd (an affordable housing finance start-up). He is an economics and accounting graduate with a Post-Graduate Degree with Honors in Human Resources Management from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, India.
